Mr. Sanchez graduated from Stanford University in 1983 with a B.A. degree in Economics and from U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1986 where his Honors coursework included Real Property Law, Professional Responsibility, and Appellate Advocacy. After graduating from Boalt, Mr. Sanchez worked as an associate attorney in the Commercial Department Bank and Financial Institutions Subgroup for the Los Angeles law firm Buchalter, Nemer, Fields, & Younger. In March 1988, he joined the San Diego law firm Kirby Noonan Lance & Hoge LLP, became a partner in the firm, and, for 28 years, handled business, commercial, banking, and other litigation matters. Mr. Sanchez’s practice has primarily focused on large group, representative, class action, and complex litigation, most of which he handled from beginning to end. He has tried substantial commercial and banking cases and has been lead counsel in charge of managing multiple cases in different states across the country. Mr. Sanchez also has years of experience writing appellate briefs.
Although he is an attorney by profession, Mr. Sanchez has a history of teaching and helping others. For many years he was a Supervisor for the Crawford High School Academy of Law Internship program, which is a program for academically qualified “at risk” high school students. As a Supervisor, Mr. Sanchez taught students a full curriculum about how to be a lawyer, including case analysis, legal writing, researching legal issues, and how to prepare an opening statement. In addition, for years, Mr. Sanchez was the Kirby Noonan partner in charge of training associate attorneys in litigation practice and persuasive writing. He was a regular volunteer Moot Court judge at the University of San Diego Law School, and he has been published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal.
On July 1, 2016, Mr. Sanchez started the Law Office of Steven W. Sanchez in Bonita, California. Doing so was the culmination of his lifelong dream. Mr. Sanchez’s father is a first generation Mexican who was born to laborer parents. The elder Mr. Sanchez was the fifth of nine children and the first one in his family to go to college. He graduated from Stanford University and U.S.C. Medical School. His education was paid for, in part, by a wealthy benefactor, who did so in exchange for a simple promise: that once the elder Mr. Sanchez became a doctor, he promised to set up his medical practice in a predominantly Hispanic community. In honoring that promise, Mr. Sanchez’s father set up his medical practice in Chula Vista, California, where he was a general surgeon for more than 30 years until he retired. The younger Mr. Sanchez is honored to return home to Bonita.
At the Law Office of Steven W. Sanchez, Mr. Sanchez will continue to represent clients in the areas of business, commercial, complex, and general civil litigation as well as professional malpractice defense.
Sanchez earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Stanford University – where he was a member of the Senior Core Committee – and his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law – where his awards and honors course of study included moot court (oral argument), Appellate Advocacy, real property law, and professional responsibility.
